Keller VSS drum shells and hoops are known throuout the music industry for their outstanding construction and sound quality.
As a leading drum shell manufacturer for nearly 70 years, Keller knows what it takes to build long-lasting, high-quality shells. In fact, many of the quality drums and kits were created by Keller in the 60's and 70's which helped define a new era in music. All of VSS drum shells are made from 100% choice hard woods that have undergone rigorous selection and screening processes. In addition, they are created using Keller's state-of-the-art stagger seam lamination process.
VSS™ (Vibrating Sound Source), a patented Keller Products innovation, uses space-age technology to condition each shell. VSS™ technology results in regenerated vibrations that elevate head response and increase drum performance thus delivering a wider tonal range, more resonant frequencies and increased volume for longer, louder and warmer sounds
In general, a thinner wall thickness (6ply) gives the drum more of a fluf/poofy sound while a thicker (10-Ply) has a larger amplitude and sound waves which are closer together.
Many players today are searching for drums that offer the full, warm tones of yesteryear. Vintage Mahogany shells provide a true “aged” sound that is rich, robust, and sweet. The revolutionary Vintage Mahogany shells enable builders to craft that timeless sound in a new road worthy kit.
SALT is proud to offer Keller Snare, Tom, and Bass drum shells. The specially formulated ply configuration, combined with VSS™ (Vibrating Sound Source) patented technology and premium hand selected Maple core lay-up, is why leading manufactures and drum makers choose Keller VSS Musical Drum Shells.
Quick head response, Crisp articulation,
High-pitched presence, Sensitivity, and, Incomparable projection.
In contrast to wooden drums, acrylic shells have a louder, punchier sound. A well-tuned acrylic drum will deliver a ton of sonic "crack" and projection.
SALT supplys built to order acrylic shells from a range of colors, depths, diamiter, and thickness.
Made only of a singular standard wood species throughout, creating a pure tone and resonance true to its species.
Made from our standard woods, with a single wood species for inner and outer layers surrounding a different wood core.
Made of any combination of wood species and ply count, and in any sequence or grain orientation imaginable.
The drum shells are sanded and ready for finishing or drum wrap. There are no bearing edges or snare beds applied. SALT can precisely cut bearing edges on all size shells. We offer vintage style edges, 45-degree edge, either center, offset, or custom cuts by request. Each variety of edge can alter the final dum sound slightly. The Bearing edge is the most important part of the drum shell with regards to tone and overall performance. If you are a first time builder we encourage you to utilize our services to achieve the maxium acoustical quality out of each shell. The cost on this service is $15.00 an end for wood snare and toms, $20.00 an end for wood bass drums. We can hand cut and finish snare beds for all size snare drums, cost on wood $20, cost on acrylic $30.00.
Reinforcement rings can also be applied on the inside of snars and toms for $40.00 top and bottom and for bass drums $50.00 for top and bottom. 1 1/4" deep rings are used on toms, snares, and bass drums.
